The blower motor is the most common range hood repair. Motors fail due to age, grease contamination (which clogs the motor bearings), and thermal cycling. A failed motor produces either no airflow at any setting, or intermittent airflow that stops when the motor gets warm. Fan motor replacement: $115–$195. Range hood grease filters should be cleaned monthly for households that cook frequently. Most are dishwasher-safe — run them through a hot dishwasher cycle. Pop-up downdraft vents — Jenn-Air and KitchenAid in particular — are mechanically complex and fail in specific ways: the actuator motor wears out (downdraft won't rise), the actuator won't retract fully, or the fan motor fails.
